Здравствуйте

Добро пожаловать!

My name is Jenny Reolfi and I am studying the Russian language. In my studies, I found the difference between cultures is vast. At first glance, Russia presents itself as a very westernized society, but once you dig past the outer shell, you unearth a complex set of gender roles, an intricate dance involved in being a part of a social gathering, or even the language: there is one basic word for cat: кошка pronounced Kashka. Depending on the ending you give any word, it adds an emotion to the subject. Fat cat, little cat, sweet tempered cat, all with one word. If you say Beautiful:
красивый Pron. krasivyy, the ending determines whether you mean beautiful person, beautiful friend, beautiful lover, beautiful sunset, beautiful artwork.

I am fascinated by how the Russian say so much with so little, leaving no room for misinterpretation. I am writing this blog to explore the delicate nature and the soul behind what I believe to be a beautiful language and complex culture.

  1. Not many people around here pay much attention to the Russian language compared to Spanish or French, so this is very interesting.
